Justin Leov is the 2012 National Downhill Champion

Fresh off winning the Super D National Title on Friday, Trek World Racing’s Justin Leov backed it up by taking the win in the downhill on Sunday. This is the second time that Justin has won the National Title on this team, and the 3rd time in his career. Justin was onboard his Session 9.9 with Bontrager G4 rubber.

It was a hot dry dust bowl in Nelson for the title race with powder soft berms, blown out corners and a length of course similar to the longer World Cup courses. Issues for the weekend were clearly vision in the dust, especially with all the other riders on course during training, as well as keeping the brakes from overheating and glazing in the excessive dust.

Justin said: “I was feeling pretty good for this result coming into the race but knew it wouldn't be a walk in the park in those conditions. After winning the Super D Title on Friday I had a little confidence boost as I knew my training from my new coach is paying off. After seeding 2nd behind Matt Scoles I knew I could take up a notch and aim for the win. My race run was a little over excited in a few sections and I had to re-gather myself and calm down midway down. Pretty happy to hold it together and get the national flag on my sleeve for the upcoming season!”

That’s it now for Justin’s southern hemisphere racing as he turns his focus now towards Round 1 of the World Cup in a little over 6 weeks from now.
