Laurie Greenland Wins Round 4 of the UCI World Cup

Trek World Racingís junior rider Laurie Greenland backed up his 1st place in qualifying to take a massive win on finals day, some 4.7secs ahead of his nearest rival. The time of 3m 05.884 would have placed him 15th in the Elite Menís race on the same day. The result has ended a run of 2nd and 3rd places and is his first ever World Cup race win.

In the Elite Menís race Brook MacDonald finished 10th, his 2nd top 10 World Cup result in a row and is a confidence boost heading into the North American rounds. George Brannigan crashed early in his run in an off-camber section in sector 1, but recovered to show he had the speed, recording a time of 1m 11secs for the longer second sector, exactly the same time as race winner Greg Minnaar. Greg Williamson injured his shoulder in training and wasnít able to compete fully fit, but finished 43rd, scoring a healthy 38 points and improving his ranking by 2 places.

Laurieís win though was the highlight of the day for the team and it was well deserved. The track was extremely dusty and slippery due to the record heat experience by the region, and it was bringing many riders undone.

Laurie said: ďAbout 2 minutes before my start I had a bad feeling that I was likely to wash out in one of the dry corners. I calmed myself down by focusing on the mountains in the distance and just tried to lower my heart rate before the start. My start was calm and I got into my rhythm quickly. There was only one small mistake but the rest went really well. After crossing the line and seeing Iíd won, it was more of a relief than anything else. Iím glad to get the win and to take the fight to series leader Andrew Crimmins as we head to Mont-Sainte-Anne in a few weeks.Ē

Laurie sits just 2 points behind the series leader with 3 races to go.

The two British riders have their National Championships in 2 weeks while George Brannigan will compete in the Crankworx event next week in Les Deux Alpes, France.
