Lukas Flueckiger Ranked 9th After World Cup Round 2

In bitterly cold conditions here in the Belgian Ardennes, at the classic World Cup venue of Houffalize, Trek World Racingís Flueckiger brothers took to the start of the 6 lap second round of the UCI Menís XC World Cup. Luk was on the front row and elected to start on the far left, while Math was 2 rows back in position 18.

Luk didnít have the best of starts and lost 7 positions in the first part of the shortened first lap, while Math had a solid start moving up well but felt he wasnít firing on all cylinders for the remainder of the race. Rain stayed away but the wind that cut across the top of the newly laid out course had the fans well and truly rugged up as Nino Schurter (SUI) and Julien Absalon (FRA) fought it out for the win up front, the latter being the victor on the day.

Luk got as high as 10th on lap 3 then suffered a little on lap 4, but never left the top 15. Math meanwhile moved steadily from 28th up to 24th, the position he finally finished in and now holds a top 20 World Cup ranking at 19th. Lukís result today means he is still the 2nd strongest Swiss rider in their Olympic selection process, behind Nino Schurter; a process that will ultimately identify 3 Swiss men after Round 4 in La
Bresse, France.

Luk said: ďToday was a solid points race for me, but not a great race for speed. Iím feeling a little run down for a few reasons but know that this is actually temporary. I like the track in Czech Republic and look forward to getting back to my earlier strength in the next 3 weeks.Ē

Math said: ďMy start was good today and this is a track that I normally love but to me it felt like my heart-rate didnít get above 80%, I wasnít able to use all my power. My legs felt great, but just not enough power. This is something I know how to fix and will possibly look at some changes in my schedule for the next few weeks."

There are 4 weeks until Round 3, in Nove Mesto na Morave (CZE) which saw record crowds last year. Follow the team on Twitter @trekworldracing.
