Two Top 10's For Trek World Racing In Czech Republic

The Flueckiger brothers both finished in the top 10 today at Round 6 of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup here at Nove Mesto Na Morave in the Czech Republic, in front of a huge crowd estimated to be around 30,000. This was the first time the World Cup had visited the Czech Republic since 1997, and the fans lined the course and were extremely vocal and supportive. It was a great day of racing that saw Luk finished 6th and Math in 10th.

The brothers have only just recently completed a 3 week altitude camp in preparation for the World Championships, and their results today are exactly on target for where they need to be going into the World Cup finals next week in Italy, and the World Championships in 3 weeks. Todayís performance also guaranteed their place on the Swiss team for the World Championships.

The start today was one of the fastest ever seen. With an open road that was both fast and very wide, it allowed riders sprinting from mid field to get near the front, only to fade when it come to the single track. This made passing very difficult and for Math who is not a typically fast starter, and for him it was a difficult race fighting back from 25th to 15th over 5 laps, then eventually up to 10th.

Luk suffered less in the start and was inside the top ten by the end of lap 2, where he fought for the rest of the race. With one lap to go he was in the group fighting for 5th place but just didnít have enough on the final lap to stay there, finishing in 6th, only 20 seconds from the podium but his best result of 2011. Luk now moves up 5 places in the World Cup standings from 17th to 12th overall.

Luk said: ďIím happy with this today, itís a good sign that the training camp is working and Iím back close to the front guys. (Jaroslav) Kulhavy is another story, but Iím feeling good to be up there with the main guys and Iím excited about seeing how much more I will lift for next week. I feel like I am on target and that is really positive for me.Ē

Math said: ďI had a bad start today, I just canít go as fast as some of these guys right now but I think that is just some sprint strength missing after the altitude camp. I feel it will come back before next week, and the race in Val Di Sole is not so fast at the start. I really like that track. In the race today, about the 3rd lap, I found my legs were really good and I could fight with the guys near me and move up. To get top 10 after a disappointing European Champs last week is a good sign for the next races.Ē

The next World Cup XC #7, the finals, will be in Val Di Sole (ITA) on August 20.
